Vinylinum as a remedy for wound healing

Professor N.N. Petrov makes the following conclusions in his report about the administration of new balsams for wound healing: "а) the useful role in wound healing belongs to the fir balsam and the synthetic Peru balsam. They can be useful even more than Vishnevsky ointments б) balsams should be widely applied for surgery not only during the war but at the peaceful times".
Meanwhile balsams were seldom administrated in the practical surgery as during the war as well as in peaceful times. The reason is probably the fact that the most famous Peru balsam is rather expensive imported medicine. That is why the aim was to develop the chemical medicine that could have the features of healing balsams and was different of them in preparation and price. Recently that medicine was found in the way of Vinylinum.
In 1940 A.E. Favorskiy and M.F. Shostakovskiy developed the simple method of getting the vinyl etheres on the basis of the reaction perforemed by Favorskiy even in 1888. They worked in the Institute of Organic Chemistry of the USSR Science Academy. Clinical testing of Vinylinum was carried out in Kiev Military Hospital by Z.F. Shostakovskiy, V.A. Avakova and A.D. Lyapin-Dolinskiy. Vinylinum was tested on 26 patients. The authors came to the conclusion that the medicine produces the anasthetic and bactericidal effect, stimulates the growth of granulation tissue and epythelization process.
The balsam like polymers of vinyl butyl ether were successfully tested by professor Damperov as well. He applied it for the healing of wounds after ostheomyelitis operations.
Professor Rubanov writes in his characteristic of the requirements for the modern antiseptic agents (Course Manual for General surgery): "The preparations should possess the following characteristics: they should be bactericidal, they should make no influence on the cellules and tissues of organism, they should not loose their effect by interaction with alive tissues, they should not be fugitive ones, they should be simple for application, their cost should be low for wide usage.” On the basis of literary data we may say that Vunylinum complies with all listed requirements and has undeniable healing features common for the natural balsams.
